I am Heather Mithoefer Adcock and I work from my home studio in Weaverville, North Carolina.
As a potter, my work is influenced by my background in art & architecture. I often feel myself dancing between the two worlds of art & design, at times in the freedom of pure art & others in love with technical projects. Clay brings a beautiful balance between these two passions.
I make pieces that bring beauty to daily rituals but are rooted in function. I design cups that fit in one’s hand but stack neatly when stored. My ceramic lights are a balancing act of weight & proportion & must ultimately accommodate a fixture & filter light.
Much of the ceramic process is in the planning, which satisfies the designer in me. It’s the sitting down at the wheel where I find the opportunity to be an artist, enjoy the meditative qualities of throwing & let the clay lead the way. It’s a wonderful juxtaposition which shows up in my modern yet rustic aesthetic.
The pieces I made range from everyday dinnerware and mugs to larger pendant lights. I strive to make pottery that balances beauty with form & function & brings art into the home that is both useful & illuminating!
